Time out for BKK’s transit passengers

Passengers in trasit at Bangkok airport can buy rural tours to a old market and tiger zoo.

TIGER Kingdom Suvarnabhumi has re-opened after a five-year closure. It hopes to tap transit long-haul passengers that arrive on early morning flights to Bangkok and have to wait for evening departure.

Tiger Kingdom has 40 Bengal tigers of all age groups from cubs to full-grown adults. Their cages are located in a U-shaped arena-style building. Visitors can observe the tigers from a raised platfrom on the second floor of the complex. In the morning, cubs swim with life jackets in a small pool. Visitors can touch and cuddle cubs younger than two years.

However, the facility is still in its soft opening phase and renovation work continues even though it is open to the public. When completed, later this year, it will have souvenir shops with photography services for those who would like to have a printed and framed photo taken with a cub. Intially, there are no tiger shows but that feature is likely to follow. The zoo was closed for five years, so training has to start from scratch.
